Scott Elgin Reed

Scott Elgin Reed served as a judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky from 1979 to 1994. He was born on July 3, 1921 in Lexington, Kentucky. Reed received his law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1945. Following law school, he worked in private practice in Lexington from 1944 to 1964. He then served as a judge for the Fifth Appellate District of the Kentucky Court of Appeals from 1969 to 1976 and then as a justice for the Supreme Court of Kentucky from 1976 to 1979. On August 28, 1979, President Jimmy Carter nominated Reed to serve as a judge for the Eastern District Court, to a seat newly authorized by 92 Stat. 1629. The Senate confirmed his nomination on October 31, 1979. Reed assumed senior status on August 1, 1988 due to a certified disability, and served in that capacity until his death on February 17, 1994.
